Philosophers typically deal with aethetics in terms of the following abstract questions.

1.What is the nature of the beautiful

2. What is the relationship between form and content?

3. Is beauty objective or subjective? Does it exist independent of our opinions or is it mainly in the eye of the beholder, as some have suggested?

In the world of applied aesthetics we start with the effect we want and work backwards, using whatever we can to obtain the desired effect.

Taste is an important factor but it is very subjective. Taste is idiosyncratic; it is affected by factors such as sex, education, socioeconomic class, values, time, and culture. (Think for example how fashions from just a few years back look today) some sociologists have suggested that there are "Taste cultures" that shape the way people perceive things.

There's this meme on Facebook that I found a little funny that was about Mariah Carey coming at christmastime as if she was a Balrog. Then i thought wait that idea sucks, i remember when I liked her albeit I was 4 and I loved Christmas time and still very much believed in Santa. Then something changed my mind. Something profound. I watched the podcast archetypes with the dutchess of Sussex and it lead me to question why the meme was so funny. It was all about the archetype diva and what being a diva was all about. Which means godess.

Taste cultures bring us to that thought about how people percieve the world. People from different perspectives must by necessity view the world differently. Because we all are different. We all come from different backgrounds. Mariah Carey is a diva and once ordered 100 doves and 20 cats when she visited London. I am a schizophrenic man making a value judgment of a meme I seen of a face book meme. I am schizophrenic as a wet cat. We are not the same. Obviously and importantly. By why is it that the art uses the medium to bring to society a taste that brushes upon the capitalistic enterprise, the marketing nightmare and logistically awfull thing that is the holiday season. As a young boy being brought to a Christmas village and seeing the light inspired me and hearing an artwork that falls into the same aesthetic as that medium would be inspiring. Why is it just so fun to poke fun of now. I was just born when that 1994 christmas time album came out, je-'suses birth was already deeply embedded into the psyche of people's in culture. It's so important to become enculturated because the world is full of beauty, maybe the beauty of the world will save some of us from the malevolence of life.

John Constable was a landscape artist from England whose portrait of sailsbury cathedral is such a beauty. 'My Cathederal looks very well...considering how much I dreaded it...it was the most difficult subject in landscape I ever had on my easel.'

I've purchased this book which was a rather good one, a biography of this artist whom I admire with ardor. Joshua Reynolds wrote this intruiging book called discorses which our artist studied at the royal academy of art. He endeavored to go back and paint landscapes of his native southern England.

In this case yes, beauty exists independent of our opinons because this beautiful work of art has existed and I havent known of it half my life. The form here brought about from the particular good book with pictures in it because all good things have pictures in it but more on that now.

Learning to look

When looking at an image what we know can determine how fully we can understand or interpret it. The chandilier in Jan van Eyk's: Giovanni Arnolfini and his bride 1434 represents Christ's presence. The shoes represent probably cap G's commandment to Moses to take off his shoes when on sacred ground. The convex mirror suggest God seeing everything, The dog represents marital faithfulness, the bride has her hand on her stomach representing her willingness to be with child, the fruit has symbolic meaning of the virgin Mary.
