It is a hard thing to break through a habit, and a yet harder thing to go contrary to our own will. Yet if thou overcome not slight and easy obstacles, how shalt thou overcome greater ones?" -imitation of Christ
The hard things are hard and when they are more than you can manage it feels like a lot. There are so many things in this world that can make you bleeding sings pearl jam in their song just breath. Everyday I feel like that is more true. Life is demanding more and more each day for less reward. The struggle is real. To break an evil habit is hard because the myriad conditioning you've been programming for yourself. It's so easy to mindlessly scroll through your phone for hours looking at apps and playing games. In this day and age where internet port is so easily accessed its easy for a young man or women to develop a bad habit and destroy their brains. The availability once again of things like drugs can offer short relief from transitory human experiences but there are dangers from these evils and may be burdensome to your family, coworkers or teachers. If you become a chronic alcoholic for instance you can find yourself spending all your days drinking and feeling sick for instance. This happened to me for a short while and I spent a lot of time and energy just feeding my sickness. I went into bodily shock and nearly became dependent on alcohol. This was an evil time and the habit was evil. I became addicted to the bottle and needed it to feel.
So long as we live in the world, we cannot be without trouble and trial. Wherefore it is written in Job, The life of man upon the earth is a trial.1 And therefore ought each of us to give heed concerning trials and temptations, and watch unto prayer, lest the devil find occasion to deceive; for he never sleepeth, but goeth about seeking whom he may devour.
Thankfully there are also many means of support. There are spiritual lessons to be had and there is enlightenment to be attained. The time your standing here is no less sacred then when Ezekiel stood at the river chebar and saw God in the clouds.
There is no less sacredness and there is divinity in the trivial.
