Virtual Reality and Digital "Type Beats"

As we all know Napster and I tunes changed the course of the music industry forever. Digital music was now something that the record industry had to contend with. With the emergence of this new file sharing systemic infrastructure people had access to entire library's and catalogs of music online.

Pioneers like Lee “scratch” Perry revolutionized and played their studios with elegance and showed what can be done in the studio. With hits like “Disco devil” this producer showed us how he can record dub albums unlike anything seen before this time in the studio.

Electronic music may have been “in the studio” but now everyone has access to the recording of new tracks via Digital audio workstations like Pro Tools And Garage Band. And to show this there are a wealth of new and emerging electronic musicians using their new software to produce their own tracks and even share them on the internet with peer to peer sites such as sound cloud. But that's not even scratching the surface as these new independent artist are becoming their own labels and using aggregators to release music on the bigger music sharing sites like spotify and I tunes respectively.

In this new emerging landscape of a mostly online digital infrastructure its important to note that artists now have more freedom for their music and are developing new interesting ways to share their music. If you take a look at “Type Beats” Music Producers are developing new songs that fit to an artists style and would hopefully strike up a deal with that artist using their beat.

Ill use a song I made as an example where I make a Rezz “Type Beat” and share it on you tube in hopes that someone would find my style fitting with this dub step/electronic producer/DJ of the year and pioneer in her own right as she released an entire album in virtual reality. Here you can see the link to my own creation of a type beat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwvYeLr3-MA&t=32s As you may infer I had accesses to my own suite of a multi track recording software and attempted to recreate the infamous type beat in my own way. Choosing the Artist Rezz as my go to artist to make a similar recording style.

But as the digital age grows even deeper there are new technologies out there to exploit and use for an artist. In This case it is the emergence of virtual reality. A Relativity new format seen mostly in video games but now has its stems in the music industry as this iconic and reverent DJ exploits the media to release her new EP.

In this highlight reel you can see how the first electronic musician released her EP through virtual reality. https://www.facebook.com/OfficialREZZ/videos/306906126823790/

And you can also stream this DJ's new album on Spotify here: https://open.spotify.com/album/6JQG5HNtGjmLoCoEfub3ch?si=O2JnR3fkT5OlDnAKm9n3eg

So with new formats is there ever an end? First the vinyl than CD and digital. And now musicians are bold and creating media in virtual Reality where you can put on goggles and tune into an entirely new experience made on streaming services like YouTube. The gift of this new technology is memorizing and as the music industry evolves its only being thrown into new virtually unexplored territories as time goes on.
